hello, i'm congresswoman sewell, and i'm here in washington, d.c. fighting on behalf of the members of the 7th congressional district today is the 63rd anniversary of the brown v. board of education decision which was a hallmark decision that integrated public school systems. you know, prior to brown v. board of education, in america,

Brown Vs Board Of Education For Kids, black children and white children went to separate schools. i can tell you that i was a direct beneficiary of the brown decision. i went to elementary school and high school in the 70s and 80s, and "all deliberate speed," which is what the supreme court said about brown v. board of education,
in alabama took about 20 years, but in the 70s, we did start to integrate our school systems and i can tell you that both the black kids and the white kids both enjoyed the diversity that is what makes america so exceptional. i think what the brown v. board of education decision really tells us is that change is possible. i know that we still have a long way to go in public education we still have very much unequal resources in different schools and different geographical regions and within the same state.
i want my constituents to know that i'm fighting every day to make sure that the folks of the 7th congressional district have the same life opportunities that i've had and i think that begins and ends with a great education.
